Marathounta village is located to the North
hills of Paphos town and is definitely for
those seeking a quieter, more rural
lifestyle, away from the tourist hustle and
bustle. This is an area renowned for its
natural beauty and stunning views and the
real beauty of Cyprus can be found here
with its abundance of local flora and fauna,
lush green valleys and the crystal clear
water sparkling in the distance.
Marathounta is a traditional Cypriot village where the locals still
welcome newcomers with big smiles and open arms and you will
find the local traditions and old ways still very much in evidence
here.
Marathounda and the neighbouring village of Armou boast a
tavern each, but you would need to go down to the outskirts of
Paphos for most of your supplies, although there are a couple of
small village stores located in Konia for your basic needs. The
local tavern offers a selection of traditional grilled
meat or fish, served with fries and the usual Greek salad and dips
for about €10 per head including wine. Take aways are even
available if you prefer!
There is also a nice tavern in the centre of nearby Konia Village,
serving traditional Cypriot Meze style meals.
Despite the rural beauty and tranquillity of
Marathounta, all the local amenities of
Paphos town, the golden sandy beaches of
Coral Bay, the ancient/historical sites and
picturesque Paphos harbour are all just a
short drive away.
For the golfing enthusiast, the world famous
golf course of Tsada is just 4km away, with
two futher championship courses both within
a 20 minute drive. It is 7 minutes to access
the main route (A6) to Paphos airport and
other towns and 12 minutes from the coast.
